Josep María Martí

Born in Vilafranca del Penedès in 1981, he completes his higher degree studies on classical guitar at the Conservatori Superior de Musica de Barcelona with Jordi Codina.

He then continues his studies on plucked renaissance and baroque instruments at the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya (ESMUC) with Xavier Díaz-Latorre, specializing on solo performance and chamber music; and with Mónica Pustilnik on basso continuo, graduating with the highest degree. He then moves on to study with Eduardo Egüez at the Zürcher Hochschule der Künste in Zurich, graduating with a Master in Music Performance.

At the same time, he specializes in basso continuo and opera techniques at the La nuova Fabbrica dell’Opera Barroca in Novara (Italy), under the direction of harpsichordist Massimiliano Toni and director Deda Cristina Colonna.

He works regularly as a basso continuo player with orchestras and ensembles such as Café Zimmermann, directed by Pablo Valetti; Le Concert des Nations, Dir. Jordi Savall; Academia Montis Regalis, Dir. Alessandro de Marchi; Cappella Mediterranea, Dir. Leonardo Garcia Alarcón; Les Sacqueboutiers de Toulouse, Dir. Jean-Pierre Canihac; La Terza Prattica, Dir. Massimiliano Toni; Vespres d’Arnadí, Dir. Daniel Espasa; Los Músicos de su alteza, Dir. Luis Antonio González; with whom he has performed in numerous concerts in Spain and Europe, as well as in prestigious festivals such as Innsbrucker Festwochen der Alten Musik, Festival D’aix-en-Provence, Tage Alter Musik de Herne, and Festival D’Ambronay, to name but a few.

Josep has taken part in various recordings for France Music, Radio France, RNE, Catalunya Radio, SONY int, Challenge Classics and the Alpha label.
