Event Details

At the beginning of the 17th century, Sacred music went through a period of many changes and new tendencies. In Italy, the polyphonic music that was characteristic of the 16th century was gradually being replaced by new musical forms: cantata, sonata da chiesa, messe per organo, oratorio, etc. New vocal melodies started to emerge to which techniques like ritornelli, variations and basso continuo served as accompaniment. Likewise and also emerging at that time were instrumental forms like the sonata or the sinfoniaL’Estro d’Orfeo presents a program of Sacred music from the Seicento Italiano comprising both instrumental and vocal pieces -the latter in instrumental version-. A selection of works that, as the title of this program suggests, evoke and manifest through harmony a wide variety of devout affects (“affetti devoti”), thus reflecting the more spiritual side of music.

Pieces by Palestrina, Merula, Legrenzi, Monteverdi, Buonamente, Castello, Guerrieri, Cima, etc.

Leonor de Lera, baroque violin & artistic director

Josué Meléndez, cornetto

Ignacio Ramal, baroque violin

*****
